this & that

The last month has been a wild one.

Just how I like it. As I mentioned in my previous post I am not the best at remembering the camera. So here are a few things we have been up to...at least a few that I was able to capture!

Plenty of swimming with mama at the country club. Did I mention how much I love their french fries?

Powell Trip I

{Jakey couldn't get enough of Whitney & Devree}

For some reason he was completely fascinated with his long lost Uncle Brant from Arizona.

Cousin Ali did Bigs' hair. Moments like this made me realize that I really did need to cut his hair. Even if it does make for some great laughs!

I think this was the only picture of me and the little rug rat that trip. Proof that I actually was on that trip...and a farewell pic of the old houseboat. Good times!

{Proof that I do blog about the hubs}

A big hole.
Long story short: Michael has been finishing an office for a physical therapist. He needed a therapeutic pool. Only problem was... since the building was already existing you couldn't get equipment in to dig it. And NO ONE wanted to dig it once they saw it. Luckily, they were able to rent out some mini equipment and do it all in one day. Fun huh?

{All dressed up and no where to go}

I made Mike take this picture a few weeks ago. It's proof that I actually do make an effort to get to church. It seems like these days I am lucky to get to more than an hour of it.

{the two loves of my life}
Powell Trip II

We found out the Jakester is a bigger fish than we thought.

He loved every minute of the water.

{a new best friend}

Last year Mike took this old stand up down to the Lake. It hadn't been running for 13+ years and the boys decided to fix it. Now it runs like a champ...and I am a little embarrassed to admit how much fun I have on it. Who knew?

Mike D

{hey linds, does that take you back?}

On the 13th these sexy little things turned the big 25. The hubs bought me a new lens. Just checking it out.

Family fun. I guess I thought something was hilarious. I wish I knew what it was.

Jakey enjoying being the center of attention. And notice the view. Definitely caught the feel on this one.

Mr. Bigs just showing off his new hair. Man I really could just eat him up.

{He is all boy}

Jake saw his cousins doing this earlier (with clothes on of course) and he just had to check it out for himself.

We love a good boat ride.

Hopefully I will continue to get better at snapping pics.

But don't hold your breath.

my life is like

a cupcake.

For Father's Day, the little monkey wanted to make his dad a treat. So cupcakes it was. Ever since I was a child I have dreaded Sunday nights. As a kid, Sunday night meant another week of school was just a few hours away. No thanks. Anyway, this quirk of mine has followed me into adulthood (whether or not I have to work) and on Sunday nights I find myself replaying my weekend in my head.

As I finished up our We Love You So Much Daddy You Are The Best Ever Cupcakes I couldn't help thinking that my life was like this cupcake. Strange? I know. I like things simple. Bright. Clean. With little bits of color. Which made me think of my weekend. We had a lovely few days spending time together. But here's the catch: I never bring my camera. Swimming with cousins...forgot it. Park City...forgot it. Father's Day Celebration...you guessed it. FORGOT IT. I guess what I am trying to say is we do fun things and I forget the camera. That is why I end up with such a stellar picture of a cupcake, instead of something more meaningful. Camera or not, It made me think of something. Memories. I know pictures help you preserve these memories, but sometimes a picture doesn't capture everything. As we left the restaurant in Park City, it was pouring rain. The three of us geared up and bolted for the truck. About half way to the truck I heard Jakey just giggling. He was having so much fun running with his daddy and getting soaked. Looking up through the rain and seeing my little family playing together was amazing. I couldn't help but take that moment in.

And a picture can't do it justice.

the inevitable

Recently, a few things have caught my attention.
One, my kid desperately needs a haircut. Or does he? I mean really in the big scheme of things does it really matter if my kid looks like he is wearing a wig?

The other thing that has consumed some of my thoughts is the realization that my child will grow up whether I like it or not. That I will get old. That time goes by so quickly. It used to be Me. It used to be Me & Mike. And now it's a family. Us. Don't get me wrong, I mean I know that we have been a family all along, but in my head I think I am still 18. Funny, but true. I was talking with some wonderful gals I work with, and it hit me. I have entered a new phase. This phase consists of sleepless nights, lots of diapers, running around in circles, cleaning, crying, teaching, laughing, and eventually doing this a few more times. Although I have been doing this for the past 10 months, suddenly the light bulb came on that I didn't just have a baby, a new phase has started.
It has and will be lovely.
I can't decide if this great realization of mine was brought on because my baby is quickly approaching his 1st Birthday or because the big 25 is right around the corner for me, but either way they are both inevitable.

And so is the fact that his hair will just keep growing, so I guess I will just let it.

something to laugh about

Last weekend we had some friends over for dinner. They have a little boy about six weeks older than Sir Jakey Poo. Although you can't see in this picture, I'd say he has a good 5 or 6 pounds on my kid (which makes this story even better). Anyway, Beckam would walk around playing while Jake would army crawl to catch up with his new friend. It got quiet for a minute and we looked around the couch only to find Mr. Beckam just taking a break on little Jake. The best part was that sweet Beckam just kept on doing it if Jake would stop crawling. So funny. He didn't mind until he tried to crawl and realized he couldn't go anywhere.
It's nice to have good friends to lean on, huh?

i know, i know

My boy is darling but I REALLY need to get some family pics instead of always using him for a header.

The title of our blog is 'A taste of the Thomas'.

But lets be honest...it's really a lot of pictures of Mr. Bigs.

And stories about Me. Me. Me.

And occasionally 'a taste' of Mr. Thomas himself.

Which brings me to a post that is long overdue.

It has come to my attention that I never blog too much about the hubs. It's not that he isn't around, because he is. It's not that he isn't lovely, because he is that too. I really don't know why it is, but here are a few ideas.

1. Jake is pretty much the center of our universe. Meaning...I can't remember the last time we took a picture of something besides him. They tend to turn about much better that way. Can you blame me?

2. We do things that we find enjoyable...but let's face it, No one wants to hear how we drove around all weekend. Laughed at one another. And laughed at the little monkey.

3. I often blog about random thoughts, events, or feelings and by doing so I give my husband the gift of NOT HAVING TO LISTEN to me.

Tonight as I was getting on the laptop and while Mike was watching American Chopper, a commercial for an upcoming show about the World's Tallest Boy came on. It caught my attention, only because I had previously seen a blurp of this boy meeting Shaq. Anyway, out of no where Mike says, "Why do people always ask kids that are a bit different...like really tall, really short, 400 lbs, or have a problem...what they like to do for fun? They are kids. They like to do normal things. They like to play Nintendo, watch sports, hang out with their friends, play baseball, and play games."

I was a bit touched at how concerned the hubs was for these kids.

Then he adds,

"What do these idiots think...that because these kids are different all they like to do is catch grasshoppers?"

And then I lost it.

Who says that? Where did that come from?
I loved the way he was so concerned about these little kids and then in the midst of his little rampage throws in something so hilarious. Grasshoppers? Really?

It's nights like this when I love my life...and know that we will ALWAYS have something to smile about.

This is why I should blog about my husband more often.

{For those of you who don't think this is funny...you probably don't know the hubs. You should get to know him. And be pleasantly surprised}

5.18.2009

it's what i had

for dinner.
Because I eat away my problems.
Because it was such a Monday.
Because I like chocolate.
Because people with big egos drive me crazy.
I am thinking I might make this a Monday night tradition while the strawberries are fresh.
Feel free to join me.
I feel much better.

{oh and because I am on a diet...and strawberries are healthy}

the celebration

The hubs birthday started out with this little guy waking daddy up in an outfit that he begged me to put on him...except I couldn't get the little guy to hold still for a picture.
Then Mike went golfing with his dad and brother, then we went to dinner with his parents, and then came back for presents, and cake & icecream.

Bigs went shopping with me the night before and picked out a hat to give his daddy. Jake has an obsession with his dad's hats and Mike saw this a few weeks ago and I wouldn't let him buy it for the babe. It's so funny, every time we put it on him he starts beaming and holds onto it, unlike the other hat that I bought for him. Once again, couldn't get him to sit still. And don't you love the Pj's? They go good together.

How is it that when you have a kid your birthdays are still their birthdays? Funny how that works. Don't worry, there were still presents that weren't for Jakey.
